Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation

We are — you, your neighbours, your friends or family.

Our Impact Why We Exist

The Saanich Peninsula Hospital is a vital part of our community and after 29 years of work, we see a strong sense of ownership on the part of residents of the peninsula. Our loyal and supportive donors have helped fund no less than 8 major renovation or construction projects and purchase hundreds of pieces of equipment. It’s our hospital.

Our Story What We Do

In 1985, a group of concerned citizens came together to raise funds for the fledgling Saanich Peninsula Hospital. These visionary members of our community created an independent registered charity (BN11913 0540 RR0001).

Saanich Peninsula Hospital (SPH) is a community hospital serving approximately 30,000 households on the Saanich Peninsula area of Vancouver Island. The hospital was built in 1974 as an Extended Care facility and has grown to become a full service hospital with 48 acute care beds and 144 extended care beds. The hospital was amalgamated into the Capital Health Region of Greater Victoria in 1997 and into the Vancouver Island Health Authority in 2002.

Since its formation, the SPH Foundation has raised over 26 million dollars for equipment, facilities and programs at the hospital.

The Foundation consists of 15 directors, elected by the membership of the SPH Foundation. It employs a full-time Executive Director and a full-time Assistant, plus two contractors, who manage events and grants/planned giving. The office of the SPH Foundation is in the hospital and this affords the staff and directors an up-close look at the work and needs of the facility.

The Annual Campaign has been an important part of the fund raising program. It has traditionally been carried out through an every household direct mail appeal in the last quarter of the calendar year. Each year the Foundation directors have chosen a project (equipment or facility redevelopment) as the fundraising target.
