Pacifica Housing Advisory Association
Our Impact Why We Exist
Pacifica Housing is a non-profit charitable organization that provides affordable housing for low income families, persons with a disability and adults who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Pacifica Housing also provides housing outreach support and referral services through the Downtown Outreach Services office.
Our Story What We Do
Pacifica Housing's mission is to be a leading provider of affordable homes and support services that contribute to the independence of individuals and families.
We believe in “housing first”: helping people find secure housing first, so health, family and other personal matters can then be addressed. Pacifica Housing's vision is to build better lives through affordable homes and community connections.
It is our long term desire to lead by example in integration, creativity and responsibility. We work to break the cycle of homelessness by enabling families and single adults to achieve permanent housing so they can live with dignity, safety and stability.
Our Programs How We Do It
Pacifica Housing Services
A home off of the streets and meaningful social and health services help people to resolve issues and gain skills they need to maintain a tenancy and to improve their lives.
Housing outreach and support services are provided to individuals who are currently homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. These services are available through the Downtown Outreach Services office located at 826 Cormorant Street and include Housing Outreach, Community Support and Private Market Partnerships.
Staff led art groups take place at each of Pacifica's four supported housing sites. The informal groups provide an opportunity for positive social interactions between tenants who share stories and art techniques with one another. Artistic abilities range from beginner to accomplished artist and all are welcome.
"Our Gardens" is a community garden initiative currently operating at four Pacifica Housing complexes. Resident gardeners work with a coordinator and are involved in all aspects from constructing raised beds through to planting, weeding and sowing.
Friends and Food
The Friends and Food program connects marginalized individuals living in Pacifica's supportive housing complexes with the local community through shared meals and culinary activities.
Pacifica Housing's Work Program fosters a sense of pride in home & surroundings, encourages social interaction, develops and strengthens life skills and promotes vocational skills preparing tenants for work in the mainstream labour force.
Streets To Homes (S2H)
The Streets to Homes program (S2H) uses a Housing First approach to move individuals who are experiencing cyclical homelessness directly into housing in the private market through a comprehensive landlord support system. Individuals receive a rent as well as case planning and supports to ensure they remain housed and progress towards self-sufficiency.
The Youth Group program provides weekly group sessions, based on the internationally renowned Virtues Project. Children enjoy arts and crafts activities, celebrate various holidays through special events, have nutritional snacks, and go on field trips to learn more about their wider community. Beyond the fun, children practice socially appropriate behaviours that build self-esteem and develop strong and healthy family relationships and friendships.
