Our Impact Why We Exist

  • Our Vision: As followers of Christ, we envision a compassionate community where the cycles of poverty have been broken and lives restored.
  • Our Mission:Our mission is to build community and maintain relationships, providing essential and transformative services to those in need.
  • Our Values:

Christianity: knowing that love comes from Christ and redemption is the way of God’s Kingdom, we serve and lead as a response to that love, shared with our neighbours, a love that pervades everything that we do and are.

Integrity: knowing that trust is key in all relationships, we act ethically, lead with transparency and are accountable.

Collaboration: knowing that we are a part of a system of care for those we serve, we lead and partner with others to achieve our vision, honouring the work of others and bringing our best to those we serve with.

Empowerment: knowing that we are capable of transforming our community for the better, we support those we serve in doing their part, invite our staff and volunteers to create solutions, be adaptable and take action while respecting and inviting the capability of everyone.

Safety: knowing that we are entrusted with precious lives and for the health and wholeness of those we serve, we commit to prevent the occurrence or risk of injury, danger or loss for all in our community.

Our Story What We Do

The Mustard Seed Street Church has been essential in fighting hunger and restoring faith to a large portion of people living in poverty, as well as the working poor, in greater Victoria since 1975. The Church ministries are nearly 100 percent community funded and include Vancouver Island’s largest food bank, a family center, hospitality programs, and addictions recovery at Hope Farm Healing Centre as well as more traditional church services.

The Mustard Seed Street Church positively impacts, on average 5,000 individuals per month, with more than 50 volunteers keeping things running.  With your help, lives are transformed on a daily basis!

Our Programs How We Do It

The Mustard Seed Street Church is comprised of four core ministries:

The Family Centre: We offer an empowering program of courses, workshops, and seminars designed to equip poorer families with necessary skills and resources. Together, we tackle issues of budgeting, literacy, parenting, and cooking. We help our members access crucial communal resources. This program is designed to put an end to the terrible inheritance of extreme poverty by equipping our families with skills to empower future generations.

The Food Bank: Established in 1983 as a response to increasing need in Victoria, The Mustard Seed Food Bank has expanded to become the largest food bank on Vancouver Island. Today the Food Bank positively impacts, on average, 5,000 individuals per month - approximately 32% of which are youth under 18 years of age.

Hope Farm Healing Centre: Located 50 minutes north of Victoria, our Hope Farm Healing Center is a recovery center for men recovering from addictions. Expanding 32-acres, Hope Farm connects recovering addicts with the land while offering healing counselling services. We provide training and work experience to benefit our participants and the surrounding Cowichan community.

Hospitality: At The Mustard Seed we understand that food isn't the answer to breaking cycles of poverty and homelessness.  We have developed a vibrant community through the Hospitality ministry, offering fellowship, councelling, chaplaincy and community meal programs to bring hope and healing to the whole person.
