Gulf Islands Seniors Residence Association (GISRA)
Our Impact Why We Exist
Meadowbrook is a member of the BC Non-Profit Housing Association and provides both Assisted Living and Supportive Housing to its residents. Meadowbrook has continually been recognized as providing excellent services to their clients and demand for accommodations exceed current supply.
Our Story What We Do
In 1997, a group of island seniors raised concern that many seniors were leaving the island to find appropriate supportive living accommodations for those needing to leave their homes. In 1998, the Gulf Islands Seniors Residence Association (GISRA) was incorporated and became a non-profit, charitable organization. Private funds were raised, land acquired and named Meadowbrook and construction of a 37 suite building was completed in 2003. At the opening of Meadowbrook, all suites were occupied and full occupancy has remained over these last 11 years with an active waiting list.
Our Programs How We Do It
The philosophy of Meadowbrook's assisted living and supportive housing is to provide housing with support that enables residents to maintain an optimal level of independence. Services include an evening meal, weekly house cleaning and laundry, and access to an activity room and library lounges. Emergency alert services and a registered clinical counsellor is available to all residents.
